Entertainment Meccas Collide: NY Rangers vs. LA Kings for Stanley Cup

When you think sports rivalries, the Yankees/Red Sox, North Carolina/Duke and Muhammad Ali/Joe Frazier roar to mind.

Don’t forget the enmity between the Big Apple and Los Angeles, one which could get nastier thanks to another OT thriller Sunday night in the NHL.

The New York Rangers will face the LA Kings this week in a battle for nothing less than Lord Stanley’s Cup. marking the first time these two teams faced off in the game’s signature event.

Not since baseball’s 1981 World Series between the Dodgers and Yankees have teams from the top two TV markets met for it all….

Game 1 of the best-of-seven Stanley Cup Final is scheduled for Wednesday at L.A.’s Staples Center. The Kings, who joined the league in 1967, are seeking their second title (and second in three seasons) while the Rangers — who began NHL play in 1926 — are in quest of their first crown since 1994 and fourth overall.

The two cities famously clashed in the late 1970s/early 1980s when the New York Yankees battled the LA Dodgers during three World Series bouts. The Bronx Bombers, led by Reggie Jackson, took two out of the three available championships.
