Another Call to Bullpen: Meredith Viera First Woman to Host Olympics Primetime in US

Former Today show co-host Meredith Viera will host NBC's primetime coverage of the Olympics on Friday, filling in for Bob Costas and an exhausted Matt Lauer, who had been doing double-duty shifts while filling in for Costas, who has infections in both eyes.

It's an honor to fill in for him,'' Vieira, who will be the first woman to host Olympics primetime coverage, said on Today Friday. "You think about the Olympics, and you think the athletes and then Bob Costas."

"I'm dragging a little today, I didn't sleep at all since yesterday morning," Lauer said, before saying he would be sleeping during primetime. "Meredith's fantastic, she'll be great, she really will, and I know she's going to have a blast. It's fun!"
