Although Organizing for Action was set up by Obama’s former advisers to advocate his agenda, it has been described by Jay Carney as a “outside “, “independent”, “separate” organization. In January, the President sent a mass email to his supporters urging them to join OFA, and the First Lady filmed an OFA recruitment video from her White House office. The White House has received blistering criticism from both the right and the left over the perception that they are offering access to big donors.
The Hill reported Obama will be speaking to the group at their “founder’s Summit” this Wednesday, and the price tag to attend the event is $50,000.
The president will address the advocacy
group’s “founder’s summit,” a two-day event for donors and supporters at
a Washington-area hotel.According to The New York Times,
donors will pay $50,000 to attend the event, and other speakers will
include OFA Chairman and former Obama campaign manager Jim Messina, as
well as Jon Carson, the group’s executive director and former director
of the White House Office of Public Engagement.At the event, the president and OFA officials are hoping to rally
supporters for efforts on the president’s gun control, immigration and
budget initiatives.But recently, watchdog groups and
Republicans have accused the White House of selling access to the
president through OFA, which accepts unlimited individual donations.
