WASHINGTON, D.C. — Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) accidentally called President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, whom he and Senate Democrats have taken strenuous efforts to block from the bench, “Justice Gorsuch” during a press conference that he, Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) held on Wednesday.

“Justice Gorsuch’s blindness to that,” Whitehouse said before Blumenthal corrected him. He continued, “Judge Gorsuch’s blindness to that is a legitimate concern for the hearing and his lack of curiosity as to who is actually spending millions and millions of dollars in a political campaign to secure his confirmation was very disappointing,” speaking of the alleged use of “dark money” in Gorsuch’s confirmation.

Schumer turned to Whitehouse as he continued to speak, bearing a slight smile masking a hidden reprimand.

Whitehouse then directed the media to a clip of Whitehouse questioning Gorsuch about alleged “dark money” during a hearing in the House Judiciary Committee. The clip ended with Gorsuch replying to Whitehouse, “You’d have to ask that.” After that, Schumer said, “We are.”

Whitehouse chimed in, “So that’s what we’re here to do, is that ask that question.”

Watch the clip on CSPAN.
