LOS ANGELES, June 29 (UPI) — Eye in the Sky actor and Captain Phillips Oscar nominee Barkhad Abdi has joined the cast of the upcoming Blade Runner sequel, Alcon Entertainment announced.
The ensemble also includes Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Robin Wright, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Carla Juri and Dave Bautista.
Sicario and Prisoners director Denis Villeneuve is helming the science-fiction picture and expects to begin principal photography next month.
The film will be released by Warner Bros. in North America and Sony Pictures Releasing International will distribute it overseas.
The sequel is set several decades after the 1982 original, with Ford reprising his iconic role as Rick Deckard. In the first film, Deckard was a futuristic cop charged with tracking down renegade androids.
