WASHINGTON, Sept. 28 (UPI) — Chance the Rapper, Kelly Clarkson and Yolanda Adams will perform at the White House’s National Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony on Dec. 1.
Tickets for the annual event are free and are awarded via lottery system on Oct. 7 on the ceremony’s website. The lighting of a national tree dates back to 1923 and President Calvin Coolidge who started the tradition with a local choir and a Marine band quartet.
Last year’s ceremony was hosted by Reese Witherspoon and featured performances from Andra Day, Tori Kelly, and Fall Out Boy.
Two of this year’s performers, Clarkson and Adams, have both performed for President Obama in the past with Clarkson singing at his second inauguration and Adams at events honoring Ray Charles and the Civil Rights movement.
Chance, whose father worked for then-Senator Obama in Chicago, is a favorite of the President and was featured on Obama’s summer music playlist this year.
This year’s tree lighting will be broadcast the following day, Dec. 2, on the Hallmark Channel.
