Police in Lancashire apprehended one of the two men who escaped last week when a car rammed into the prison van which was taking them from prison to court.
Stevie McMullen, 31, from Salford, was arrested along with two other men suspected of taking part in Tuesday’s ambush after police stopped the car they were travelling in on the A6 near to Lancaster University.
Fellow escapee Ryan McDonald, 20, also from Salford, is still at large and police warned he still poses a “potential danger”.
McMullen, who was arrested on suspicion of evading lawful custody, was freed as he was being transported from HMP Altcourse in Merseyside to court.
He was standing trial over charges of conspiracy to kidnap, conspiracy to commit robbery, conspiracy to commit arson, possession of a firearm, and other offences.
