Paris (AFP) – Andy Murray qualified for the Vienna final on Saturday when his semi-final opponent Spain’s David Ferrer pulled out with injury, organisers said.

The 2014 champion in the Austrian capital thereby took another step towards deposing Novak Djokovic as world number one.

The 29-year-old Scot will now meet either Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga or Croat Ivo Karlovic in Sunday’s final.

Should Murray, who has won Olympic gold and the Wimbledon title already this year, win in Vienna as well as next week’s Paris Masters, he could knock Djokovic off the world top spot — as long as the Serb does not reach the title match in the French capital.
