KEY WEST, Fla., Sept. 26 (UPI) — The U.S. Coast Guard on Monday said it is searching for about 20 Cuban migrants who were aboard a boat that capsized Wednesday.

The Coast Guard’s 7th District Southeast said the search mission began after three Cuban migrants were found on an island near Big Pine Key in the Florida Keys.

“The three men reported they left Cuba on Tuesday with 23 people aboard a rustic vessel and that the vessel capsized Wednesday evening,” the Coast Guard said in a statement.

The HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane and the Robert Yered Sentinel-class cutter were deployed from the Coast Guard’s Air Station Miami to find the migrants.
