Unidentified customer orders proximity sensor fuzes

DULLES, Va., May 19 (UPI) — Orbital ATK is producing proximity sensor fuzes for an unidentified international customer through a Direct Commercial Sales contract.

The contract, which provides for fuze deliveries to begin this year, is worth $16 million, the company said.

“Orbital ATK is proud to be a valued partner in developing, producing, and supporting advanced sensors and related solutions for the United States and its allies,” said Pat Nolan, vice president and general manager of Orbital ATK’s Missile Products division, part of its Defense Systems Group. “The DSU-33 sensor has been a key part of U.S. and allied arsenals for well over a decade.”

Orbital ATK’s DSU-33D/B is a radio-frequency ranging sensor with the capability to sense the height of a weapon above the target zone to maximize its effectiveness. More than 155,000 of the systems have been delivered to the U.S. Air Force, Navy and allied military forces since 1999.

Additional contract details were not disclosed.
