UAE to host International Framework For Nuclear Energy Cooperation


WAM ABU DHABI, 20th October, 2013 (WAM) — The 2013 International Framework For Nuclear Energy Cooperation, IFNEC, Executive Committee Ministerial Meeting will be hosted and chaired by the U.A.E. on 24th October, 2013 in Abu Dhabi.




The committee aims to strengthen cooperation between the member states and concerned international organisations to support the peaceful use of nuclear energy in a way that meets the highest standards of safety, security and non-proliferation.




On this occasion, Hamad Al Ka’abi, U.A.E. Permanent Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA, Chairman of the Executive Committee Ministerial Meeting, said in a statement that the U.A.E.’s hosting of this high-level meeting reflects the country’s aspiration and its successful efforts to play a vital role in the development of frameworks of international cooperation to support the peaceful use of nuclear energy, according to a transparent approach based on international standards.




Al Ka’abi stressed that the development of the U.A.E. programme for nuclear energy mainly depends on international nuclear cooperation and working with international partners, and said that he expected the meeting to adopt a joint statement identifying priorities for joint action and desired results of the framework for future cooperation.




Invitations have now been sent to all IFNEC Participants and Observer Countries, as well as Inter-governmental Observer Organisations. The Executive Committee meeting will be preceded by a meeting of the IFNEC Steering Group on October 23rd.




On 22nd October, an IFNEC Finance/Regulatory/Energy Planning Workshop will also be held in Abu Dhabi as a follow-up session to a previous workshop in London in 2012.
