Courtney Love cast in Fox series 'Empire'

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 24 (UPI) —

Courtney Love has been cast on Fox series Empire.




The 50-year-old singer will portray hard rocker Elle Dallas on new hip-hop drama. The program is created by The Butler director Lee Daniels, with Daniels, Danny Strong, Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo as executive producers.




Empire follows Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard), the CEO of record label Empire Entertainment. The character is diagnosed with a incapacitating disease, and must groom one of his three sons to take over the company. He is also forced to contend with his ex-wife, Cookie (Taraji P. Henson), after she is released early from prison.




Bryshere Gray portrays Lyon’s gifted youngest son Hakeem, with Jussie Smollett as sensitive middle son Jamal, Trai Byers as ambitious eldest son Andre, Kaitlin Doubleday as Andre’s wife Rhonda, Grace Gealey as as Lyon’s girlfriend Anika, Gabourey Sidibe as Lyon’s assistant Becky and Malik Yoba as Lyon’s business partner Vernon.




Love most recently starred as Ms. Harrison on the current season of FX series Sons of Anarchy. The singer will lead pop opera Kansas City Choir Boy beginning in January 2015.
