Sports car sinks during mudflats drive

BERROW, England, Oct. 29 (UPI) —

A Toyota Celica ended up submerged in mud when a British motorist attempted to drive across mudflats and the car sank.

Sedgemoor District Council officials said the 22-year-old motorist attempted to drive across the mudflats in Berrow, England, during low tide Saturday, but the car soon began to sink and became stuck in the mud.

The driver attempted to push the car out of the mud, but the car refused to budge and a Burnham Area Rescue Boat team called out the following morning was unable to find a safe way to recover the Toyota.

Graham Newing, resorts manager for Sedgemoor District Council, said officials are in contact with the motorist.

"We have spoken with the gentleman involved, who is arranging for recovery," he said.
