Never Trump leader Bill Kristol expressed “alarm” Tuesday at a new poll showing former President Donald Trump with a significant edge over President Joe Biden on voter enthusiasm.

The poll, conducted by USA Today/Suffolk University, also showed Trump and Biden tied at 41 percent support each.

Kristol posted on X:

New poll: Biden and Trump tied 41%-41%.

“Though they’re tied, Trump has a significant advantage over Biden when it comes to voter enthusiasm.”

I am alarmed.

The poll revealed that Trump would have a narrow lead over Biden if not for independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Likewise if Green Party candidate Cornel West were not counted, it would be a tie between Trump and Biden at 41 percentage points.

USA Today reported:

Without Kennedy in the mix, Trump would edge Biden 41%-39%, a lead within the survey’s margin of error, with West at 7%. Without West in the mix, Biden would edge Trump by an even narrower margin, 38%-37%, with Kennedy at 14%.

With neither Kennedy nor West on the ballot, Biden and Trump would tie 41%-41%.

The poll showed that regarding voter enthusiasm — on a scale of one to ten, with ten being very enthusiastic — Trump scored an average of 7.1, besting Biden’s 6.28.

The poll discovered that 50 percent of Republicans, 58 percent of union members, and 54 percent of those ages 50 to 64 ranked themselves a ten for support of Trump.

Meanwhile, “no demographic group of Biden voters matches that level of enthusiasm.”

Only 29 percent of those 65 and older, 21 percent of black voters, and just 17 percent of Democrats ranked themselves a ten for support of Biden.

The poll showed that 40 percent approve of the job Biden is doing, while 56 percent disapprove. Of that, only 13 percent said they “strongly approve,” while triple that amount — 56 percent — said they “strongly disapprove.”

The poll surveyed 1,000 registered voters, with a margin of error of ± 3.1 percentage points.

The poll also showed Trump leading the GOP field at 58 percent, ten points higher than a USA Today/Suffolk Poll in June.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who was then at 23 percent, has lost half his standing and is now at 12 percent, only one point ahead of former U.S. Ambassador and South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley. Haley is up four percent from June.

More than one in four Trump supporters, 27 percent, said “nothing” would dislodge them from supporting Trump, and an additional 25 percent indicated that they would only not vote for him if he was not on the ballot, died, or if they could not vote.

That meant that 52 percent were determined to vote for Trump. Only a third said they would change their vote.
