GOP candidate Ben Carson’s campaign reported raising an impressive $20 million in the third Quarter reporting period. His take is double the amount raised in the second Quarter, powered by thousands of small dollar donations. Carson’s fundraising total has provided a yardstick to measure the other campaigns. That is, if they choose to report any numbers before they are made public next week. If the other campaigns don’t report any numbers, well, that too will tell us a lot.

Bernie Sanders Catches Hillary Clinton in Money Race

Hillary Clinton supporters may dismiss polls showing a surging Sanders as an aberration of early polling, but Sanders’ money haul is much harder to explain away. Considering the fact that Sanders has a much smaller campaign operation, as David Axelrod conjectured on Twitter, he may actually have more cash-on-hand for the next phase of the campaign than Clinton. A large number of maxed-out donors to Hillary may now give money to Sanders, if only to hedge their bets.

We’re Number 16! U.S. Drops Again in Economic Freedom

It is vital to note that the American drop has occurred in just the last 15 years. At the start of the new century, and for much of its history, the United States was a bastion of economic freedom in the world. That is no longer the case. The loss of economic freedom in the U.S. is not the result of exogenous events or developments elsewhere in the world. It is the direct consequence of policy choices made by lawmakers and bureaucrats.

A new CNN/ORC poll finds Donald Trump continuing to dominate the Republican field for President. Trump has the support of a third of Republicans nationally in the crowded 17-candidate field. Although Jeb Bush currently sits third in the national poll, he is fast becoming the most polarizing candidate in the field. Almost half of Republicans, 47 percent, say they would be “dissatisfied” or “upset” if Bush were the nominee. Only 16 percent of Republicans would be “enthusiastic” with Bush leading the ticket.
