CA: 33 Officers for 40K Gun Confiscations

California, the top-rated gun control state according to the Brady Campaign, has some of the strictest laws in the nation with regard to background checks. But when it comes time to enforce those laws – when law enforcement has the opportunity to disarm felons and the mentally ill – California fails dramatically. The entire state of California has dedicated just 33 agents to tracking down some 20,000 felons and mentally ill who own guns illegally, and 40,000 guns owned by them.

On one visit, it took the officers approximately five-and-a-half hours to seize five guns. In 2012, the officers were only able to seize just over 2,000 guns. Every year, 3,000 new Californians are added to the felon/mentally ill gunowners rolls.

New laws won’t solve the problem of bad guys with guns. Enforcement will.
