Trayvon Martin Family's Atty: Trayvon Not on Trial

Trayvon Martin’s family’s attorney, Ben Crump, said Wednesday, “Trayvon Martin is not on trial here, he is the victim. George Zimmerman, his killer, is the man who is on trial.” Noting that former New York City police detective Harry Houck had commented on Tuesday that Martin would still be alive if he didn’t have a “street attitude,” rump retorted, “This comment is reprehensible and extremely reminiscent of the victim-blaming rhetoric we saw a year ago.”

Crump was pleased with the prospective jurors he had seen, saying, “Their answers have been forthright and we have faith that the justice system and the members of the public who are selected for the jury will perform their civic duty in a fair and impartial manner.”

Tracy Martin, Trayvon’s father, agreed: “As we sit through jury selection…we are encouraged that we as a family can get justice for our son Trayvon and we ask that the public continue to come forth and be honest as potential jurors.”
