89-Year-Old WWII Vet Shoots and Kills Man Who Kicked in His Door

On July 12, a Wake Forest, North Carolina, World War II veteran shot and killed a man who kicked in his door.

According to WRAL.com, 89-year-old Calvin Anderson Ray went to answer his door and saw 47-year-old Jeffrey Daylon Mitchell standing there.

Mitchell was upset over a broken air conditioner on a property Ray owned and had allegedly “threatened to kill [Ray] two or three times over the last 12 months,” so the WWII veteran retrieved his gun.

Ray said that as he was coming back to the door, Mitchell backed up, then “kicked the door open, broke all that, and said, ‘I’ma get you.’ So I let him have it and I shot him.”

Police found Mitchell’s body on Ray’s porch when they arrived.

The suspect’s brother said that “Ray should be charged with a crime,” adding that Mitchell “should not have been killed for kicking in a door.”
