On February 24, a Bullmastiff mix named Legend protected its maser and stopped a home invasion after one of the suspects shot it — twice.

According to Tampa, Florida’s Bay News 9, homeowner Mersadie Wells-Shahan “saw five men walking near her home… shortly after at 11 pm.” Her boyfriend was in the front yard, and the men allegedly walked up to him and “pistol whipped” him.

The suspects then allegedly pulled the boyfriend into the home, dragging him on the ground and then the floor. Wells-Shahan ended up being dragged down as well, which is when Legend intervened by biting the suspects.

At least one of the men shot at Legend, hitting him twice, but the dog continued protecting the homeowner by attacking the suspects, causing them to flee.

One of the alleged suspects, 24-year-old Michael Jovahnny Rivera, “was arrested and charged with battery with a deadly weapon, robbery home invasion, and aggravated cruelty to animals.”

Legend is expected to survive his wounds.
