Kanye West’s announcement that he is running for president in 2020 could inspire young people, and that is “awesome,” says former first daughter Chelsea Clinton.

“I definitely think who runs for office is really important and even if him just saying that helps spark a little boy or a little girl who was watching the VMAs to think, ‘Oh, wow like maybe I should do that,’ that’s awesome,” Clinton said in an interview with MTV that aired Tuesday.

Clinton’s mother — Hillary Clinton — is currently seeking the Democratic nomination for president in 2016.

Last month, while accepting the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, West offered a lengthy and rambling speech, which ended with his presidential announcement.

“And yes, as you probably could have guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president,” West said.

Asked if she would support West in his bid, Clinton responded, “I think it depends on who he’d be running against.”

A day after West’s announcement White House Press Sec. Josh Earnest acknowledged West’s news.

“I heard a little bit about Mr. West’s announcement,” Earnest said. “Let me just say I look forward to seeing what slogan he chooses to embroider on his campaign hat.”

GOP frontrunner Donald Trump also weighed in after West’s announcement, telling Rolling Stone that the rapper has said nice things about him.

“He’s actually a different kind of person than people think,” Trump said. “He’s a nice guy. I hope to run against him someday.”
