President Donald Trump announced that Americans would get lower taxes as early as February 2018 if Congress passes a tax cut bill before Christmas.

“If Congress sends me a bill before Christmas, the IRS has just confirmed that Americans will see lower taxes and bigger paychecks beginning in February,” Trump said proudly.

The president appeared optimistic about getting the bill through, urging Congress forward.

“We are so close right now, so close!” Trump said. “The cynical voices that opposed tax cuts grow smaller and weaker.”

The bill is currently in conference, with the final version likely to be released by Friday. The final vote will go to both houses of Congress next week.

Trump again dismissed talking points from Democrats suggesting that the bill was only a tax cut for the rich.

The president brought several couples and families into the White House to talk about how the tax cut bill would help them in their lives.

“Somebody called me and everybody else the deplorables, have you ever heard that term?” he asked. “We’re proud to be the deplorables and we are doing well.”

Trump said that he was disappointed that no Democrats had decided to support the legislation.

“That’s purely for political reasons, they like it a lot but they can’t say it … someday we have to come together to do bipartisan and hopefully it can happen soon,” he said.
