Judge Roy Moore, the former Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Alabama who lost to Democrat Doug Jones last year amidst old allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior with young women, mocked Rep. Chris Collins (R-NY) on Wednesday for not dropping out of his re-election race after being charged with insider trading.
In November 2017, Collins called on Moore to drop out of his the special election for Senate, though Moore had not been charged with any crime (and still has not).
Collins was indicted earlier this week and arrested Wednesday morning.
Moore posted a statement to his social media websites on Wednesday evening:
It appears to be the height of hypocrisy for Rep. Chris Collins (R-NY) to have called on me to drop out of my campaign for U.S. Senate in November 2017 when I was falsely and maliciously accused of sexual molestation without formal charges or credible accusations, and now he refuses to bow out of his race for the US Congress after being arrested and indicted on insider trading charges.
Perhaps Rep. Collins will learn the hard way the scriptural mandate “judge not that you be not judged, for with what judgement ye judge, ye shall be judged, and with what measure ye mite, it shall be measured to you again.”
Collins has vowed to remain on the congressional ballot. Under New York State election law, the Republican Party may only be able to replace Collins with another candidate on the ballot at this late date if it nominates him for a local office.
