Taylor Swift Helps a Fan Pay Off Student Loans

It pays to be a Taylor Swift fan, literally, and super-fan Rebekah Bortnicker found this out firsthand on Monday.

Swift, who was recently named the most charitable star of 2014 by Dosomething.org, sent a special delivery to Bortnicker this week, which included jewelry, a painting, photos, and a check for $1,989 to help pay her college tuition.

On Jan. 9., Bortnicker posted a self-made video montage to Tumblr of Swift and her close friends that’s set to the “Friends” theme song.

Two days later, the country pop singer responded to the video with a message which read, via The Daily Mail:

“I had the weirdest dream last night. Someone left…”

Before Rebekah knew the surprise that was yet to come, she wrote back:

“Taylor Swift has officially killed me.”

On Monday, a large box labeled “SwiftEx,” rather than “FedEx,” was delivered to Rebekah’s door.

Inside the box there were photos, hand-written notes, a painting by Swift, and a wallet.

“Hi you! I was thinking about you today, and how you have been cheering me on in the most thoughtful and creative ways,” were Swift’s first words to Rebekah in a card. “I’m not a good painter but I think you’re so beautiful and positive, even though you’re dealing with the stress life brings, so I wanted to make you something.”

Swift even included a Polaroid of her painting the gifts in case Rebekah didn’t believe her.

It’s captioned, “Just sitting around painting flowers for Rebekah.”

Inside the wallet was the gift that left Rebekah breathless and in disbelief.

There was a personalized check, along with a message, which read:

“Rebekah, now you are $1989 closer to paying those student loans.”

Swift is known for being interactive with fans. In December, She sent a similar box to an Arizona school teacher who shared a video on Tumblr of her lip-syncing to a few of Taylor’s songs.

The seven-time Grammy award winning singer also showed up unannounced to a deliver a toy Mercedes to a fan’s child in Connecticut.

Swift reportedly has a history of “Tay-lurking” on social media. She likes to get to know her fans, and occasionally shower the loyal ones with gifts.
