Natalie "Tone Deaf" Tennant Spox: So What If We Insulted West Virginia University?

West Virginia liberal Democrat Natalie Tennant launched her bid for the Senate today and stumbled out of the gate by using a clip in her announcement video filmed on the campus of the University of West Virginia’s chief rival, the University of Pittsburgh,.

But apparently that wasn’t enough of a gaffe for the Tennant campaign. They’ve now doubled-down on dumb for a campaign already at risk of being seen as out of touch with West Virginia, given its links to Obama and Washington via Tennant’s liberal politics.

A Tennant campaign spokeswoman downplayed the episode, saying “there was no intentional use” of the video, called it “stock video,” and said there was no identification of the location of the video when the clip was purchased.

Can you say, ‘What difference does it make’? That phrase has been made infamous by Hillary Clinton when she was questioned on Benghazi by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

The race is already seen as leans Republican by the experts and Tennant likely didn’t help herself here. Even CNN is already poking fun at Natalie Tennant with its “Game On” headline.

Both the Cook Political Report and the Rothenberg Political Report, another leading non-partisan political handicapper, rate the race in West Virginia as lean Republican.

The NRSC, in an email Tuesday afternoon, highlighted a report from the Washington Post that pointed out that a quick shot in Tennant’s video was of the University of Pittsburgh, University of West Virginia University’s biggest rival. The NRSC email said Tennant “stumbles out of the gate.”
