Rep Hurd: Moderate Republicans Have the Votes to Force Immigration Bills to House Floor

Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Rep. Will Hurd (R-TX) said moderate House Republicans have the votes to bypass House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) and force a series of immigration bills to reach the House floor.

Hurd said he expects immigration bills votes including one to continue the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy will happen in June.

When asked if moderates have the votes, Hurd said, “We do and we’re adding votes every single day. We’re engaged in conversations to figure out is there another path. I don’t believe that there is.”

He added, “The time has come. It’s 2018 and we don’t have operational control of our border. We have a million plus young men and women who have only known the United States of America as their home that are in this uncertainty period. They don’t know about their future. Now is the time to solve this problem and do it once and for all.”
