“Saturday Night Live” refuses to parody the current Oval Office occupant, but the return of one of the show’s biggest alums gave it the chance to mock President George W. Bush all over again.
Will Ferrell hosted last night’s new “SNL” episode, and it didn’t take long for him to dust off his Bush impersonation.
The show’s opening sketch featured Vice President Joe Biden (Jason Sudeikis) grumpy over President Barack Obama (Fred Armisen) getting all the credit for approving gay marriage. But Biden is comforted by his imaginary friend, “George” (Ferrell as Bush).
“Those smarty pants types are never gonna understand speak-first guys like us … you and me are all gut and balls,” Bush said, drinking O’Doul’s.
“Mission Accomplished … it’s just something I like to say when a problem isn’t solved but I don’t like talkin’ about it anymore,” he says when his words of comfort fall short.
The sketch alluded to Vice President Dick Cheney’s shotgun incident as well as the notion Cheney was the real President, plus the usual Bush-is-dumb meme.
Maybe when Fred Armisen leaves “SNL” and comes back as a guest host he can tackle all that great Obama material he missed during Obama’s one term.
