Emmys Hail Dan Savage for Anti-Bully Efforts, Ignore His Bullying Tactics

Variety:

The TV Academy’s Governors Award will be presented to the organization behind “It Gets Better,” a movement designed to support LGBT youth with videos and other online content.

Project co-founders Dan Savage and Terry Miller will receive the honor from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences at the Sept. 15 Creative Arts Emmys ceremony….

The project’s origins are in a September 2010 YouTube video Savage and Miller created to inspire hope for young people facing harassment, in the wake of suicides of students who had been bullied. The movement expanded into more than 50,000 user-created videos that have been viewed more than 50 million times, including submissions from President Obama and Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, as well as such performers as Ellen DeGeneres and Anne Hathaway.

Yes, this is the same Dan Savage who called gay people rooting for Mitt Romney come November “faggots,” wished all Republicans were “fucking dead” and cursed Christian high schoolers.
