Julian Assange Assails 'Fifth Estate' in Letter to Film's Star

WikiLeaks mastermind Julian Assange is no film critic, but he can’t stop slamming the movie based on his own exploits.

The Fifth Estate, opening nationwide Oct. 18, casts the talented Benedict Cumberbatch as Assange in full secret-revealing mode.

Earlier this year, Assange called the film a “massive propaganda attack” and claimed it has little to do with real events. He also tried to coax Cumberbatch out of the project, witness a newly released letter he penned in January about the film.

You will be used, as a hired gun, to assume the appearance of the truth in order to assassinate it. To present me as someone morally compromised and to place me in a falsified history. To create a work, not of fiction, but of debased truth.

More recently, WikiLeaks leaked a version of the film’s script to highlight what the organization deems its inaccuracies.
