Norway: Man in Penis Costume Sprays Bystanders With Confetti to Spread STD Awareness

Both Sweden and Norway have a problem with STDs, with Sweden deemed the STD capital of Europe, and Norway right up there. RFSU, a Norwegian sex education charity, has attempted to spread a message to their citizens about the importance of protection — by hiring a man to dress in a penis costume to go around spraying unsuspecting bystanders with “confetti.”

The “penis can surprise you” video campaign uses a man dressed up as a male sex organ to spread awareness using the tagline “fit like a glove” to encourage the use of condoms during intercourse. The video ad campaign was created by a Swedish agency but filmed in Norway and was posted to Facebook recently.

One of the messages reads, “Sometimes being a dick is the best way to get your point across.” Another suggests, “The penis can surprise you,” in order to demonstrate that an STD could creep up on anyone unsuspectingly, which is why protection is so critical.

The video has gone viral with over 19.5 million views. According to a 2010 UNAIDS estimate, more than 2.3 million people were living with HIV in Europe, and the ECDC reports that chlamydia is the most frequently reported STD there.
