Ice Cube’s ‘War of the Worlds’ receives 5 Razzie Awards

March 14 (UPI) — War of the Worlds was the big loser when the 2025 Razzie Awards were announced early Saturday.

The latest version of the sci-fi staple was deemed last year’s worst film AND worst sequel, prequel, remake or rip-off, while its star Ice Cube was voted worst actor. The movie also earned the distinctions for the worst director (Rich Lee) and worst screenplay (Kenny Golde and Marc Hyman).

Rebel Wilson was named worst actress for Bride Hard, Scarlet Rose Stallone was voted worst supporting actress for Gunslingers and all seven computer-animated dwarfs tied for worst supporting actor for Snow White.

“Becoming a cult hate-watch classic almost immediately, War of the Worlds has been cemented in Razzie history as a near sweeper of our $4.97 trophy,” a press release said.

“Utterly destroying H.G Wells’ classic novel, director Rich Lee (maybe inspired by Ed Wood) chose a goofy gimmick, hack dialogue, and a particularly hilarious performance by its lead, Ice Cube, to seize 2025’s biggest number of statues.”
