Iraq MPs vote to remove parliament speaker amid political row

Iraqi lawmakers decided to remove parliament speaker Salim al-Juburi, in a vote held in his absence

Baghdad (AFP) – Iraqi lawmakers voted Thursday to remove the parliament speaker and his deputies amid a major row over the cabinet lineup that has caused chaos in parliament, a lawmaker and parliamentary officials said.

But the vote, which was held without speaker Salim al-Juburi or his two deputies present, could be challenged on procedural grounds.
