Ronaldo hits PSG keeper in face with shot, Neymar has heel assist

Feb. 14 (UPI) — Neymar Jr. had a pretty assist, while Cristiano Ronaldo hit the goalkeeper in the face with a shot Wednesday in PSG and Real Madrid’s Champions League matchup.

Ronaldo also put in a goal on a penalty kick in the 45th minute of the matchup at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, Spain.

But one of the most entertaining plays of the first half came on a Ronaldo shot that didn’t go in the net. The Portuguese superstar was involved in the sequence in the 28th minute, with the game scoreless.

Brazilian defender Marcelo laced a beautiful pass, crossing the entire pitch and bending directly onto a running Ronaldo. The Real Madrid striker attempted to rip a shot from about 15 yards out. But instead of going into the net, Ronaldo’s boot hit approaching Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola directly in the face.

The attempt ricocheted all of the way out of bounds up the left sideline.

Neymar made his impact earlier in the match, receiving a yellow card for an illegal tackle. He made a positive impact on the game for PSG in the 33rd minute. The Brazilian superstar was running about six yards in front of the Madrid net when he received a pass from Kylian Mbappé. Neymar didn’t even turn around for the offering. Instead he heeled the ball backwards with his left foot.

Adrien Rabiot ran onto the Neymar offering and beat Madrid keeper Keylor Navas for the first goal of the match.

Ronaldo hit the equalizer just before the half. He lined up and struck a penalty kick, placing it to the left side of the goal. Areola guessed correctly with his save attempt, but Ronaldo’s striker beat him into the corner.

Ronaldo’s score was his 100th career Champions League goal.
