March 21 (UPI) — Sarah Michelle Gellar and Alyson Hannigan are mourning the death of their former Buffy the Vampire Slayer co-star Nicholas Brendon.
Brendon’s family announced that he died Friday of natural causes at the age of 54.
Gellar posted on Instagram a photo of her and Brendon, alongside the text from a moving statement his character Xander made to her Buffy at the end of the series.

“They’ll never know how tough it is to be the one who isn’t chosen. To live so near to the spotlight, and never step in it. But I know. I see more than anybody realizes, because nobody’s watching me,” Gellar quoted Xander as saying.
“I saw you Nicky,” Gellar told her fallen friend. “I know you are at peace, in that big rocking chair in the sky.”
Hannigan shared an image of her character Willow and Xander crying and hugging in a scene from the iconic show, which ran 1997 to 2003.
“My Sweet Nicky, thank you for years of laughter, love and Dodgers,” she wrote. “I will think of you every time I see a rocking chair. I love you. RIP.”
