June 18 (UPI) — English soccer legend David Beckham wished Harry Kane good luck at the World Cup, with a throwback Instagram post.

Beckham made the post on Sunday night. Kane scored in the first half of England’s 2018 World Cup opener against Tunisia on Monday in Russia.

“I’d like to say the academy had something to do with it but I’m just happy our coaches at the time can now say they coached a future England captain,” Beckham wrote for the caption. “Congratulations to Harry on leading England into this World Cup and good luck to Gareth and the rest of the lads …”

The photo Beckham posted included a young Kane standing alongside Beckham and his girlfriend at the time, Kate. It was taken in 2005 at Beckham’s soccer academy. Kane proposed to Kate Goodland in July.

Beckham’s photo had more than 700,000 likes on Instagram as of Monday afternoon.

Kane has always idolized Beckham, referring to the former England captain as a “huge role model” in the past. The 24-year-old Tottenham Hotspur star made his England senior team debut in 2015. He has 13 international scores.

England hasn’t won a World Cup since 1966. The English did not make it out of the group stage at the 2014 World Cup.
