With Wednesday marked as Tax Day, many GOP leaders are taking the opportunity to call for tax reform and a fairer tax for all Americans.

GOP presidential candidate Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) told Breitbart News Tax Day is a reminder that the federal government has become bloated.

“It’s time to simplify the tax code and downsize the IRS so we can unleash an economic boom that creates millions of jobs, boosts wages, and expands opportunity for all,” said Paul.

He continued, “Our Founders never intended for the tax code to be used as a weapon against U.S. citizens. As president, I will get the IRS out of your life and out of the way of every job creator in America.”

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), also a GOP presidential candidate, took the opportunity on Tax Day to push the tax reform plan he introduced with Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) at a Heritage Foundation event Wednesday.

“We have a tax code, for example, that has the highest combined corporate tax rate on the planet,” said Rubio. He added that this must change to get more investment into the United States.

Rubio said the economy must be dynamic and vibrant. He stated that this plan is pro-growth–the goal of which is to encourage investment.
