Ted Cruz Protests Iran Deal, Blocks State Dept Nominees for Third Time in Week

For the third time in a week, Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz blocked the Senate on Monday from confirming State Department nominees,  in protest of the nuclear deal that the Obama administration struck with Iran in 2015.

On Monday night Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) tried to confirm Samuel Heins as the ambassador to Norway and Azita Raji as the ambassador to Sweden. Cruz, who is campaigning in New Hampshire, had Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) object on his behalf.

Klobuchar blasted Cruz and McConnell for blocking the nominees and said that she intends to come to the floor every day until she can get the nominees approved.

“We ask him to remove these holds,” Klobuchar told The Hill. “He has not voiced any concerns about these individual nominees. He voiced concerns about unrelated policy issues,” she said.
