Rep. Marcia Fudge (D-OH) joined Joe Biden’s campaign for a livestream on Monday regarding how coronavirus is impacting black Americans, and she floated an unsubstantiated conspiracy theory about states that are reopening their economies.
“Let me just say really quickly about them opening things,” Fudge said.
“You know, they opened the beauty salons and the barber shops and the bowling alleys and the movie theaters. When they start opening up the country clubs and the tanning spas then I’m going to go to one,” she said as the other panelists laughed and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) nodded her head in approval.
“That’s right,” Harris mouthed.
“Because they’re just opening up the things black people go to because they know we’ve got these checks and they want us to spend them,” she said, apparently referring to the stimulus funds passed by Congress.
“They don’t care about our safety. That’s why when they start opening up things they go to, then I’ll understand it’s time to start to open up some things for us,” she said.
