Kobe Out 6-9 Months After Rupturing Achilles

Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant will be out 6-9 months after rupturing his Achilles tendon in a freak injury in the Lakers victory over the Golden State Warriors on Friday. He had surgery on Saturday.

On Saturday, longtime Lakers trainer Gary Vitti said Bryant had a “complete rupture,” but could play at the beginning of the next season with a complete recovery.

“It’s gone,” Vitti said. “So, it has to be sewn back together.”

Bryant said he has never had such an injury, which ended the careers of Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal. He said he knew he was in serious trouble when he asked Golden State’s Harrison Barnes if he had kicked him, and Barnes replied that he did not. Bryant made two free throws on one leg, and then left the game.

‘I mean, this is a long process and wasn’t sure I could do it. Then your kids walk in and you’re like, ‘I need to set an example. Daddy is going to be fine,'” Bryant said. “I can do it. Work hard and just go from there.”
