BALTIMORE
Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson left Sunday’s game against Baltimore with an ankle injury.

The injury occurred early in the second quarter on a snowy afternoon and on a wet field. The team said in the third quarter that Peterson would not return.

Peterson caught a short pass from Matt Cassel and headed to the right sideline. He was tackled by Arthur Brown near the Minnesota bench and immediately threw away the ball as he headed down toward the slick turf.

Peterson remained on the ground before being helped to his feet.

To that point, Peterson had 13 yards on seven carries. Peterson, the 2012 NFL MVP, began the day as the NFL rushing leader with 1,208 yards.
