Skeletal Remains of Migrants Found on Ranches near Texas Border

Brooks County Sheriff’s Office deputies recovered the skeletal remains of two deceased migrants on ranches surrounding the Falfurrias Border Patrol Checkpoint. These ranches are located about 80 miles from the border in known human smuggling corridors intended to move migrants around the checkpoint. So far this year, officials recovered the bodies of 39 migrants in Brooks County alone.

A Brooks County Sheriff’s Office deputy faced the gruesome task of recovering the half-eaten remains of a migrant who died on a Texas ranch about 80 miles from the Mexican border. The migrant is the 36th to have lost his life attempting to circumvent the Falfurrias Border Patrol Checkpoint on U.S. Highway 281.

Graphic: Five Migrants’ Bodies Discovered in Texas — 80 Miles from Border

Deputies in South Texas are in the process of recovering the badly decomposed bodies of five migrants who appeared to have died from exposure during this week’s freezing weather conditions. The deaths occurred in Brooks County where it appears the migrants were attempting to circumvent the U.S. Border Patrol Checkpoint located south of Falfurrias.

One Texas County Reports 52 Dead Migrants in 2017

In 2017, the bodies or remains of 52 illegal aliens were found in one South Texas county. They died at the hands of human smugglers attempting to move them around the centrally-located U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint.
