Brooks: ‘Quite Possible’ That Barr Would Resign if Asked to Act Immorally, Trigger Another Saturday Night Massacre

On Friday’s “PBS NewsHour,” New York Times columnist David Brooks stated that it is “quite possible” that if Attorney General nominee William Barr is confirmed and Trump asks him to do something that is immoral, Barr would resign, and “you would see a sort of Saturday Night Massacre again.”

Brooks said, “To me, the interesting thing is, does he become Elliot Richardson II? Somebody who — Elliot Richardson resigned, rather than fire the special counsel, and that set off the Saturday Night Massacre. And after that, it was curtains for Richard Nixon. And here’s someone who has integrity, who has credibility, and has loyalty to something higher than Donald Trump. And if Trump asks him to do something immoral, it’s quite possible then that he would resign, and then that you would see a sort of Saturday Night Massacre again.”
