Romney aide: 'Not a social issue election'

WASHINGTON, June 3 (UPI) —
Mitt Romney’s senior campaign strategist said Sunday the upcoming presidential election is not about social issues, but instead will focus on economy.

Eric Fehrnstrom said in an interview on ABC’s “This Week” President Barack Obama’s campaign is trying to use social issues as a way to distract voters’ attention away from his performance in the economy.

Fehrnstrom said presumptive Republican presidential nominee Romney said the economy was what compelled him to enter the presidential race when he announced his candidacy a year ago.
