Today, White House officials – but not President Obama – met with the US Chamber of Commerce to discuss the fiscal cliff situation. In 2010, the Democratic National Committee suggested that the US Chamber of Commerce was taking “secret foreign money to influence our elections.”
The head of the Chamber of Commerce, Tom Donohue, met with Obama’s chief of staff Jack Lew. “This meeting is part of the ongoing dialogue on the fiscal cliff. The business community is always interested in being a positive force in addressing the economic challenges facing our country,” spokeswoman Sally-Shannon Birkel stated. The Chamber of Commerce has prepared to cave on taxes, stating that they would be open to “new tax revenue” as part of the deal to avoid the fiscal cliff. The Chamber is hoping to have Obama loosen energy regulations. Good luck.
“We want to be a player, we want to get a deal,” said Donohue. But the chance of a deal that’s good for the business community under Obama? Slim and none.
