Abortionist Claims He Was 'Scapegoated' by Planned Parenthood

Abortionist Timothy Liveright, who faces having his state medical license permanently revoked by the state of Delaware, claims that he was “scapegoated” by Planned Parenthood.

Despite testimony before the state senate by two former nurses employed by Planned Parenthood regarding unsafe and unsanitary abortion clinic conditions, the Wilmington Delaware clinic has reopened after state officials accepted Planned Parenthood of Delaware’s plan to rectify 14 health and safety violations discovered in April.

Former employees Jayne Mitchell-Werbrich and Joyce Vasikonis described the Wilmington Planned Parenthood as an "absolute nightmare"; both women testified that they had repeatedly contacted state authorities, including the office of Gov. Jack Markell (D), about the clinic over many months, but received no response.

According to LifeSiteNews, Delaware Department of Health and Social Services spokeswoman Jill Fredel said that inspectors had assured her office that the changes required were being implemented.

Planned Parenthood of Delaware responded enthusiastically to the news of the reopening. Ruth Lytie-Barnaby, president and CEO of the abortion giant’s Delaware chapter, dismissed the complaints of the two former Planned Parenthood nurses as unsubstantiated, charging that both were working on behalf of pro-life organizations.

“I am thrilled to share that we have met every requirement of the state of Delaware’s health department, and auditors from the state this week conducted another unannounced site visit to reconfirm that we are delivering high quality care,” wrote Ruth Lytie-Barnaby, president and CEO of the abortion giant’s Delaware chapter in an op-ed in The News Journal.

“We are now stronger than any time in recent history, and I can assure you that we have the systems in place to swiftly resolve any issue that might arise,” Lytie-Barnaby continued. “Our doors have always remained open, we are providing our full range of services, and all of our staff are highly trained and meeting our promise of quality care.”

Claiming that Planned Parenthood provides “community service” by offering “affordable and accessible essential reproductive health care services,” Lytie-Barnaby wrote:

Nothing is more important to us than the health and safety of our patients, and our patients are grateful for the care Planned Parenthood provides. At a time when so many women and men are struggling to make ends meet, the services of Planned Parenthood are needed now more than ever. Planned Parenthood has served the Delaware community for more than 80 years, and we will continue to provide care for Delawareans now and in the future, no matter what.

Delaware officials stated that Planned Parenthood engaged in “unsafe and unsanitary practices.” In addition, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) cited the facility, while Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden referred to the clinic’s abortionist, Dr. Timothy Liveright, as “a clear and immediate danger to the public.”

Biden filed a complaint that charged Liveright with 10 “acts of incompetence and negligence” in his treatment of five abortion patients between February 12th and March 13th, as well as sexual harassment of female employees and “unprofessional, disrespectful, inappropriate” conduct, such as “yelling, screaming, and cursing” in the company of Planned Parenthood employees and patients.

Liveright left the Wilmington abortion clinic in April, when he reportedly surrendered his license. He still retains a valid license to practice in Pennsylvania. Delaware authorities are still seeking a permanent revocation of Liveright’s medical license.

In an interview with The News Journal, Liveright, 68, defended himself against the accusations of the former employees of his clinic, claiming the nurses’ real problems were with Planned Parenthood.

Liveright, who said he flew his single-engine plane from his farm near Allentown, Pennsylvania to Delaware once per week to perform as many as 30 abortions per day in Wilmington and Dover, blamed Delaware Planned Parenthood for its problems with authorities. He called the organization “disorganized, in disarray,” and plagued by management, staffing, and operational difficulties.

“Planned Parenthood is partly to blame for all of this,” Liveright said. “They’ve allowed this circus to continue. It’s partly because they never listened to these women to begin with.”

Describing himself as a dedicated physician performing controversial work for the benefit of women, Liveright said, “This is a very political realm of medicine, but most people in favor of abortion, I think, would be pretty happy with what I’ve done.”

Calling the state’s complaint against him “bullshit,” Liveright said he would fight the allegations and that he was being made a “scapegoat” for Planned Parenthood’s problems at the Wilmington abortion clinic. The abortionist stated that he only made one “mistake,” the perforation of a patient’s uterus earlier this year, an incident that triggered the state’s second investigation within several months.

In general, Liveright said, “You would find my record is good. My care for patients is good. It’s one lousy incident, a tempest in a teapot.”
