Rand Paul opposes Corker-Hoever Immigration Fig Leaf
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) came out on Fox News Thursday morning against a quick-fix “compromise” from Sens. Bob Corker (R-TN) and John Hoeven (R-ND) that would not secure the border before America’s at least 11 million illegal aliens amnesty, or legalization.
“I’m for immigration reform, what we have is broken,” Paul said. “But what I’ve said repeatedly is that I want to see border security first. And then the immigration reform, which I’m in favor of, is dependent on border security.”
Paul then described his “Trust But Verify” amendment that the “Gang of Eight” Republicans including Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) helped Senate Democrats kill with a motion to table on Wednesday.
“My amendment would say to Congress you get to vote each year and that the reform progresses slowly,” Paul said, before bashing the Corker-Hoeven amendment.
“This amendment I don’t think will do that,” Paul said of Corker-Hoeven. “I don’t think it will stop the reform waiting on border security. It allows the reforms to go ahead and tries to get border security, but I think they should be dependent upon each other. So, unless that happens, I’m not sure I can support it.”
