Obama Hints at Global Warming in Firefighter Deaths

Subtle as the proverbial brick, Barack Obama took time out from his African vacation to offer comments regarding the deaths of nineteen firefighters battling an Arizona blaze and implied the deadly wildfires were caused by global warming.

I think we are going to have to ask ourselves a set of broader questions about how we are handling increasingly deadly and difficult firefights. Wildfires have been continually escalating at higher and higher cost, and putting more and more pressure not only on the federal fire services but also on state and local fire services, and we are going to have to think about what more we can do on that front. But for now, I think what we are most concerned about are how painful these losses are.

What did Obama mean by “ask ourselves a set of broader questions?”

Try this: last week, the White House offered its climate plan, which asserted that wildfires are intensified by heat and drought, which are caused by climate change.

There’s money for “climate change” but not enough for the firefighters: on June 28, four senators from both parties wrote the White House to warn of the lack of funding for wildfire suppression efforts.
