Florida to Allow Illegal Immigrants to Practice Law

Some illegal immigrants will soon be able to practice law in Florida.

On Friday, the Sunshine State’s House and Senate approved legislation that would enable illegal immigrants who have “been brought to the country as minors, have lived in the United States for 10 years, be legally documented workers, have Social Security cards, and be registered for selective service” to practice law in the state.

Republican Gov. Rick Scott has said he would sign the bill.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the Florida Supreme Court ruled in March that an illegal immigrant could “not legally be admitted into the Bar even though he passed its entry exam in 2011.” The Supreme Court asked the Florida legislature to remedy the “injustice,” according to the Sentinel.
