'Twilight' Star Kristen Stewart Set for Guantanamo Bay Drama
Kristen Stewart no longer has the Twilight franchise to power her big screen career. Her next project should endear her to her industry peers all the same, given the blurb of information released Tuesday at Deadline.com.
Stewart will headline Camp X-Ray, a drama set around the Guantanamo Bay prison.
In Camp X-Ray, Stewart will play a young soldier who escapes her suffocating small town by joining the military, only to find that she isn’t going for a tour of duty in Iraq as she hoped. Instead, she’s sent to Guantanamo. Met with hatred and abuse from the Muslim men in her charge, she forges an odd friendship with a young man who has been imprisoned at Gitmo for eight years.
The project has the potential to slight small towns, the U.S. military and the country's methods for keeping terrorists from returning to the battlefield, a liberal trifecta.
