Book Spills Ava Gardner's Secrets, Shows Steamy Side of Three Star Marriages

A new book by an author picked by Ava Gardner to record the actress’s memoirs reveals decades of secrets about three major industry players.

Ava Gardner: The Secret Conversations by Peter Evans captures the Hollywood starlet at her most voracious–both sexually and fiscally speaking. The former glamour girl was broke at the time of the recordings in the late 1980s, and she figured a tell-all book might revitalize her coffers. Little did either party know the book wouldn’t be made public for more than two decades after both had passed on.

Vanity Fair magazine unleashes a juicy excerpt this month, detailing the actress’s marriages to Mickey Rooney, Artie Shaw and Frank Sinatra.

Her marriage to Rooney was undone by his constant philandering, while she couldn’t keep Shaw interested in their bond very long. As for Sinatra, she describes a sexual singer/actor who frequently attempted overdoses as a cry to help when his career hit the skids.

The book shows an actress utterly disenchanted by Hollywood, a veteran who ultimately saw through its shiny facade.
