Fire Trucks Crash Through Wall of Restaurant, Injure 15
Fire trucks from the Monterey Park, CA Fire Department and the Alhambra Fire department collided on the way to a house fire and catapulted the Monterey Park truck through the front wall of Lu Dumpling House on Wednesday.
The Los Angeles Times reported that at least 15 people were injured in the colossal crash, six of whom were firefighters, with injuries ranging from minor to one critical. Fortunately, Garfield Medical Center is just 100 yards from the scene of the accident and was able to immediately treat six of the injured. Erik Jiang, an employee for the hospital said, "None of them are classified as critical."
The remaining victims, including five firefighters, were brought to nearby Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, where a spokesman said that one patient was listed in critical condition.
The Times reported that because fireman wear headsets to receive radio instructions, noises from approaching vehicles may have been drowned out. According to the Eater, both fire trucks had their lights and horns on when the accident happened. The California Highway Patrol's major accident team will be examining all of the circumstances of the accident and determine if there was negligence on anyone’s part.
Officials said the investigation would last through the evening.
